97-f150 too slow!!

I bought my 97 about 7 months ago with 97,000 miles on it.
My father in law has a 99 and has owned it since new. Hes got 185,000 hard miles(worse than city) on his 99. Hes got 1 cylinder burning oil and does not fire half of the time.

He still smokes my truck!!

Check engine light is not on.

Just changed my plugs(Autolite 765) and new wires. No change.
Just doesnt feel like it has the tourque. No unusal sounds or vibes.
Both trucks are stock manual trans.

It has had this problem since I bought it.
Even before I lifted it and slapped on 33s.

He probably has 3.55 gears and you probably have 3.08 gears .

I have a set of 4.56 I plan to swap in. How big a difference will 3.55s make over the 3.08 though?

I guess Ill change the gears sooner than I expected.

Your truck is a dog because you have a 33in. tires w/o a gear swap. You will notice a nice power return once you swap out your gears.
