engine swap
engine swap
I recently bought a 2002 F150 4.2l. It is wrecked and may need a new engine. I have already found a few replacement engines, but I was thinking of either putting a 4.6l or a 5.4l in as apposed to the 4.2 as they are not much more $$. However I was wondering if it would be a simple pull and swap, or if I would have to change out the engine, trans, ecu, ect to do the swap. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,

i think that the 4.6 and the 4.2 use the same trans and rearend and you may find that swapping the v6 for the 4.6 may not be all that difficult. i believe that the 5.4 uses a stronger trans and rearend. as far as the ecu i can't help ya but maybe this will will help you out.
But mods and everything else are cheaper for the 4.6 and you can get more power out of the 4.6.
IMO I'd go with the 4.6, but a new ECU/wiring harness maybe needed along with some other things. If you have to replace a whole lot of stuff inorder to get it in there and its going to bring up the bill then I would just stick with a 4.2, but make sure its not the 97/98 engine.
