flowmaster or gibson
flowmaster or gibson
I just got a 2001 f150 xlt supercap about a day ago. I want to improve fuel mileage mostly. sound, looks, and extra torque and hp are welcome but not my first priority. Im adding a K&N tomarrow, after that im not sure what to do. I was thinking exhaust, and looking at gibson or flowmaster. Which do you guys like, and personaly I like the dual split out the back. Just looking for others oppinions.
ok, well you will get a TON of different opinions, but here's mine.
Go with a FULL intake kit, such as an AIRAID (only ones who make the full ones for 4.2, and AF1- but Airaid is cheaper just because it isnt chromed, both work the same). Then, electric fans will improve the MPG more than anything, but power wise, the intake and exhaust will give you the cheapest most noticable power increase. As far as exhaust, some will say gibson, or magnaflow, but flowmaster has never failed me. if you want loud, go 40 series, or quieter inside the cab than out, go 50 delta flow. I had the 40 but it was loud inside the cab when towing, so I went to the 50. Id go si/so 2.5" pipe, which is probably your stock pipe, but if you go duals, you will loose power especially on the 4.2, and your low end TQ. After my intake and exhaust, I get about 2 MPG more on freeway, but nothing in town, and maybe 1-2 more towing. But my millage is usually 12-13 and 15 freeway, 10 towing locally, 12 towing freeway. Good luck with whatever you do. Id go airaid/flowmaster.
