So I took off my Superchip...

And I can't wait to put it back on.

Here's the summary:

Pulled chip, yanked battery, turned on lights to clear computer. Filled up with regular (CA crappy low energy content gas, 87 octane, $1.72/gallon).

First impression was that somebody yanked off two spark plug wires. Major, noticeable power loss between 1500 and 2200 rpm. Right were I drive alot of the time with the 3.55 gears and automatic. Required noticeably more pedal pressure to make minor accelerations; motor occasionally downshifted on freeway when I wanted to speed up slightly. Also downshifted on slight grades or passing where it would not need to downshift with the chip. Downshifts were from OD to 3rd and sometimes to 2nd. Very annoying.

Truck felt gutless at low and medium rpm. Took it up to high rpm a few times - seemed like some powerloss, but not as dramatic a % of total power as at lower rpm. See other mods in sig.

Drove it for a full tank, 387 miles. Hot weather, 100-105 degrees, approx 20-30% humidity (humid for around here). Road trip (roundtrip) to my inlaws, about 85% highway miles, 15% city on tank. Freeway speeds usuaally 75-80, other two lane highway at 60-70 mph. With regular fuel, got 17.2 mpg at $1.72/gallon.

The prior tank I had the chip in. Made the same roadtrip with the same weather, same route, approximately same speed & traffic conditions. Got 18.9 mpg with the chip and 91 octane premium fuel, at $1.92/gallon.

Fuel Cost for trip on regular: $38.70
Fuel Cost for trip with Superchip: $39.31

Basically, the premium fuel costs about $0.10 per hour of driving to have the chip. Well worth it!

Not only is our fuel low octane, it is low energy content 'clean air' fuel. Makes less pollution per gallon burned, but you burn more gallons.

I drove my last two tanks of gas 418 miles and 425 miles. The only mod I have is a K&N filter. That is on regular unleaded gas.

You have to remember that any time you reset the computer the power is really going to suck for a while because the computer has to relearn.

Got about 500 miles on it without the chip. The power has indeed gotten slightly better (or I've gotten used to the lack of power), but it is still much slower than it was before. Off the line acceleration is much worse, and it takes noticeably more throttle to keep up with traffic at the stop lights.

BTW, when I first put my chip in over approx. 4 years ago, it was a noticeable improvement right away.

I'll burn the rest of this tank (my 2nd without the chip) and check mileage before I put the chip back in.

Just got done with the 2nd tank of regular fuel/no chip.

381.36 miles, 24.75 gallons, 15.41 mpg! LOW LOW LOW.

This was 35% city, 65% highway, most highway was Interstate 5 at 75 - 85 mph, may have been bucking a very slight headwind. Temps 100 degrees plus, AC on almost all the time.

The big problem was I ran out of gas and had to walk 1/4 mile to a gas station and buy a $10 container for gas! I have had the chip in for over 3 years and got complacent when my low fuel light came on, as I easily would have made my destination (an another 20 miles) with the chip in.

Put chip back in and cleared computer. No mileage figures yet but IMMEDIATE power improvement, takes noticeably less throttle to keep up with traffic when running 1500-2500 rpm. Even if the chip costs a little more to run at premium fuel prices, it's staying in my truck.
