NEED TO KNOW....can I use a 98 4.2

Hi All....

Need to know if I can replace my DOA 4.2 in my 97 F-150 with a 4.2 from a 98 conversion van. I'm not up to speed on Fords by any means but am learning. The codes on the valve cover from my existing DOA 4.2 are as follows... 159 237 788 and 6K702BA
the codes off the 98 van motor are 496 085 763 and 8K706DA any help here would be apriciated. If this will play will I need to use my existing injection system or should the new(er) engines injection set up be OK ???? Life sure was easier before computers and injection !!!!

Thanks Karl

Yes, but, the 97 & some 98's have the same issues relating to the front cover gaskets & lower intake gaskets that your 98 did.

What you would do is transfer *all* items from your truck to the van long block. except for the oil pan, unless it's different, which I bet it isn't.

When you replace your intake manifold, etc, make sure you use the revised gaskets, they're black plastic with grey inserts for the lower, black with blue inserts for the upper.

Depending on the production date for the van engine, you might want to replace the front cover gaskets too, since you'll have it broken down all the way.

Go to www.leakingfords.com for info on build dates of which would need the front cover & which wouldn't.

Hope this helps.
