Whats wrong? Truck 'jumping' after shifts...

I am pissed at the truck tonight. I was driving down the highway and my shifts started messing up. The truck would rev up while it was supposed to be shifting, then it would catch and jump forward. Another time it revved high, then jumped, I let off a little then it did it again when I tried to accelerate again.

This is a 2002 AT truck with 18K miles on it. The tranny fluid is full. Anyone have any idea what the problem is here? The trucks done good up until tonight.

You must have a warranty, so you shouldn't try to figure this out. Just take it to the dealer.

From what you are explaining, it sounds like you have a high stall torque converter, meaning that the transmission builds up pressure and then shifts at a higher RPM. Normally, when there is a mechanical problem, the transmission will slip and then violently slam into gear.

My money says that your transmission filter has slipped out of the valve body.

you might try checking out the speed sensor. I had the same problem in my '93 lightning. The new trucks don't have a speedometer cable, it runs off the tranny. Mine went out and a replacement cost about $110 and it's a pretty quick fix.

My truck hasn't done it since. Kind of odd. If it does it again, I will have it fixxed under warranty.
