Got the 1999 xl w/4.2-5sp
This little short bed regular cab short wheelbase truck rocks the most!!
What a great little truck.
So I have the 308 rear end, did a rocket run up highway 5 today, somewhere under 500 miles, and was getting 16MPG cruising at 80-90 MPH.
What kind of mileage are y'all getting?
I haven't changed the oil yet or looked at the air filter or plugs.
I need to purge the brake fluid too, it's brown and needs to be replaced, coulda been dragging the brakes just a tad there with the bad fluid heating up and expanding.
I'll get into that tomorrow. I hear oil will make a difference with fuel mileage.
What brand of oil are you folks having good success with?
What about spark plugs?
I'm also going to do the tranny and differential. Would like to hear what oils are the right thing there too. I get the sense synthetics are gonna be better for component longevity and operational efficiency...

I get 19 mpg on hwy ~70-80 Mph. I get 16-17mpg in city.
I have almost the same Truck except I have the 3.55 gears.
I am in the bay area so email me at almostrice@yahoo if you want any info. I have only 48k miles on my truck. It also has Lightning seats from a 2001.

I basicly have the same truck as you, except I have the 3.55 limited slip rear end. I love my truck and don't worry about being in a wreck with them. They hold up pretty good. I totalled out two other cars with my truck and my truck got fixed almost as good as new.
Headless-
You be nice to the other cars out there...

What kind of fluids are you guys running in your trucks?
Still haven't done the tranny yet, been using the truck pretty much every day.
I'm going out to get some Redline ATF tomorrow morning and most likely will do that during lunch.
Think I'm gonna do a cooling system flush this weekend and do the distilled water and water wetter thing too. No need to think about antifreeze here in Oakland CA.
The new Rancho RS9000X shocks should come around tomorrow too...

hey, i'm getting an f150 this weekend (2000 4x2 supercab xlt 139'' wheelbase styleside with the 4.2 5speed)...now, on the options list...it has listed the 3.55 gears regular axle...are all the 3.55's fitted with the LS, or must it specify that it has it?
i'm don't know about these trucks, so really, i don't even know what questions to ask...can you throw a little help my way?

The 3.55 rear ends in our trucks come in either an open differential version which is non-limited-slip, and an LS version which is limited slip. There is a code on the inside of the driver's side door jamb that show the axle code. This will determine whether you have LS, or non-LS.
