Performance Intake Chip = 20hp ???

has anyone seen or tried this chip?
they are selling on Ebay.

they are a sensor Mod chip.
said to give up to 20hp.
something about tricking air sensor and advancing timing.

i want to get one, they are going for like $10 !!!
but is it a joke?

Joke Joke Joke

It is a joke...No one will sell 20HP for 10 bucks. Not unless it's your best friend, and even then, I think you'll have trouble getting it for that price.

It's a big fat joke.

Any one see that infomercial for the 'electronic supercharger'? It was like a Hair Dryer that hooked up ot the intake. Probably claimed like 75HP

Rock On

Yeah I've been thinking of trying it as well. They have them for like a $1 or so on ebay. I think they must be a joke but can anyone speak from experience? For a couple bucks I think any performance increase would be worth it. Has anyone tried them out there???

Apparently it's a resistor that tricks the computer into running in open loop mode, similar to a cold startup. It's supposed to give it a bit more fuel and thus more power, but with a system as sensitive as ours I can't see how it would not hinder things. The extra fuel will make the mixture too rich when the truck is warmed up, which causes plugs to fail, converters to clog, etc. I'd definately stay away from it.

I'm sure it does give a 20HP gain (Flywheel). That's a big difference between Rear wheel which is what eveybody assumes.

20HP even at the crank would be a very noticeable improvement. That would be more than intake, exhaust (excluding headers), and most performance chips for that matter. I really doubt it adds even close to 20HP on most applications.

Hey what's up JnBmx. Yeah I'm still alive, just been a little busy. I've really been reading more of the Lightning forums latley but I'm starting to find my way back over here more. I guess I'm just going to have to realize it's going to be a long time before I finally get one. Still got to graduate and get a job But oh well, in the mean time I'll have fun with what I got.

Hey guys I've been thinking about that resistor mod and I've heard a lot of negative thoughts about it. I was thinking that it might not be as bad as everyone fears on our trucks. I figure all it really will do is make your mixture run a little rich which of course isn't good. But what I was thinking is that our trucks already come running a little lean from the dealers, they do this just to be safe and to meet that economy rating they give for the trucks. Also, since the majority of us have free flowing intake and mods of this nature, that this just makes our air/fuel mixture run even leaner. So I think that this mod may not be as bad for your truck as everyone thinks. I guess the only way to find out is if someone tries it. I figure that you should be able to tell if your running too rich or not, and if this is the case just remove the mod before it has time to cause any problems. I don't know... what do you guys think? Also, I think for the ones that have performance chips like Diablo, Superchips, etc., we need to start another discussion about the possible effects of this mod since the timing, air/fuel ratio, etc., has already been changed prier to this resistor intake mod.

Hmmm, good point JnBmx. But are you sure they come rich from the factory? I would think that they wouldn't be able to meet the EMPG they put out for these trucks running them more on the rich side. I mean, I've been around some cars that run really rich, mostly turbo charged celicas, supras and cars of this nature. They put out a large amount of black exhaust when they really hit it. I was just comparing my truck to their exhaust, and it doesn't even come close, mine is much much leaner. They all have a really good knowledge about cars and none of them have had any real problems due to running on the rich side. That's not to say it won't cause problems but when I compare the slight change in the a/f ratio that this mod does, it doesn't even come close to the amount I've seen the a/f ratio bumped towards the rich side. Just trying to make the point that I doubt that this mod changes the a/f ratio enough to cause any problems. I figure if you put it in and you don't notice much of if any change in your exhaust and how rich its running, then I really doubt it will cause harm. But I respect your warning JnBmx, you make a good point.

Every F-150 that I've seen has a significant amount of carbon build-up on the exhaust pipe. From what I've seen, they definitely run rich from the lot.

You guys have a large carbon buid up on your pipes? Wow, maybe I have a special truck. I really don't have much build up on mine. I mean don't get me wrong, all vehicles get some over time. I do notice I have to clean off the exhaust tips every once in awhile, but it isn't very much. I don't notice any more build up on my truck than I've seen on other vehicles. Shoot I've seen rice rockets with carbon build up all the way up their bumper and onto their trunk. Now that's running rich!
