Got Nut?

There are days when I wish I had the 5.4 and there are days when it feels like I have the 5.4. 3rd gear is just plain awesome in these trucks. Nice and cold out, intake sucking like crazy and feeling like, bring on any V-8. Roared down the highway back and forth with another Ford brother in his Triton V-8, back and forth 60 -90 having fun. The only thing lacking was having AC/DC blasting from the speakers with "Big *****"

Rock on V-6 Brothers

I raced something today. I don't know what it was, but I know it was yellow. Ugh! We where at a red light and he had his girlfriend with him. I had ZZ Top's Gimmie all your Lovin' blasting from the speakers. Now I was'nt going to race him, never even thought of it. The light turned green and he nails it. His tires are squeelin' and I thought oh *****! By this time he's a good car length ahead of me. Then I threw it in 2nd with a mighty chirp and started to catch him. Then I hit 3rd and we were almost even. Ok. By this time where doing 55-60 mph in a 35 mph zone. In an area noted for cops. I think he knew that too, so we both let off at about the same time because we were approaching another red light. He could not beat me. Even with a head start! These little v6's have some power! If we had another 100ft of road, he would have seen nothin' but tail lights. I gotta get a chip and intake. To really teach these ricer boys a lesson.

I have the 4.2 with an auto tranny. Even with the auto it feels like it has more power than it is supposed to. At a red light most cars can't keep up with on takeoff, but I usually let them pass when I get up to the speed limit. The passing gear on the auto has amazing power especially for a truck with an extended cab. Can't wait though until I get my income tax so I can order a superchip and get some other modsfor the truck

4.2L with manual transmissions give the false impression of speed/quickness. They are fun to drive. But not meant for any real racing. 1/4 mile times in the 15-16 range aren't that impressive. No offense folks. They are only trucks.

Your kidding right RED??? You actually think these trucks are fast? 1/4 mile at 16 sec ? Top speeds at 124mph 0-60 times of what....10-11 sec? These are heavy trucks with small engines...do the math.

Yes Morsport I do realize I have a slow truck, but being the manual and getting on it is fun. Mine is a 4x4 as well with an 8' bed and some good size tires so I have no illusions about my speed.
I never have any intention of racing just screwing around with another 150 on the highway. Now when I win the lottery or hit a big scratch ticket you can bet there will be two trucks sitting outside. One a lightning, the other a brand new 250 crew cab.

I know that they are not that fast. It doesn't matter to me about not being fast, because I don't do any racing with it. Besides, I don't drive that fast anyways. I was just saying that it is fast enough to drive and not get left behind on the road. That is all I care about.

Thats my point, they are trucks, and 15 second 1/4 is fast FOR A TRUCK, exspecially naturally asperated. thats allot of wieght to pull.

these trucks can do some great stuff once tapped a little.

If your talking a motorcycle, 15 sec 1/4 is slow as hell, bet for its catagory, thats really good. these v6's have taken alot of trucks with larger engines, with ease and little to no mods.

Mind you that a 15 second is with some good mods to the engine, these things are about high 16's low 17's stock.

No offense was intended. I like my truck. Many of the postings on this website talk about racing and 1/4 times. These trucks are a joy to drive. They have come a long way from the first Ford I bought in 83. Sloooooow..and very few options. Pickups today are the best value out there. They are large vehicles that can be heavily optioned. And they are less expensive than comparable autos.
