Purchase Question

Has anyone used the online services to purchase their truck? I was going through the "Carsdirect.com" site and it seems to be hassle free. But as you know things aren't always what they seem? What do you guys think? Any past experiences or suggestions?

Do you have a Sam's Club card? They can do vehicle purchases.

No I don't, but I can get one easily. How would that work? Through the site I mentioned they "quote" a '02 F-150 4X2 Super Cab Styleside 138.5 in WB XLT Sport 5.4L 4spd Auto w/overdrive
for $24,632 minus the $2,500 cashback brings me down to $22,132.

Bart,

I have used the online car buying services for price comparisons,
however I have not actualy bought from one. I believe you can still always neg. a better price w/ dealer. Right now dealers are trying to unload '02's. Locally I am seeing $5k-6k off sticker for '02's. SHOP AROUND FIRST.

I do plan to shop around. I was just wondering if anyone had any previous experience with the online purchase.

One option to use is find the vehicle you want and then ckeck out either www.kbb.com or www.edmunds.com and find the invoice price. If it's an 03 model offer around invoice, if an 02 model offer 1.5-3K under invoice, they really want to move the 02's.
If your willing to wait and play hard, most dealers will order you one at invoice. Make sure to get all the codes and the cost for each, be sure to add destination charge. They still make plenty at invoice.
I ordered mine truck in July 99 at the height of truck sales when getting a decent deal was tough. I new what I wanted and got the codes and price and went shopping as a so called informed shopper. After 4 dealers I got what I thought to be a decent deal at the time. I had to wait 3 months, but I got EXACTLY what I wanted at invoice. I could have maybe dealt harder and got a better price, but hey, it was hard to get good deals then as most wanted at least $500 over over invoice and even car salesmen have to eat He was happy, I was happy!

I just purchased a 2002 XLT sport with a moonroof for $22,000. There was no haggling. I looked at the posted price, checked the rebate, checked Edmunds.com and went back and bought it. Awesome deal. It is very difficult to get a great deal where I live, the dealer had no choice, he wants room for his 03s.
