Is this a good deal or what?

First off I want to say that this is a first rate web-site in regards to it's contents & design. I don't know who runs this site, but having some idea of what goes into a site such as this, I just want to express my appreciation for a job well done. Now I'm all done suckin up here are the questions.

I considering buying a 2001 F-150 XLT ext cab with a 5.4L engine, tow package (3.73 rear end I think) with 34K miles for $17,751.00. I will be hauling one race bike, 4 wheeler, a small 20 or 22 foot bumper pull trailer, and related equipment for about a total of 4000 to 4500lbs. Big questions in my mind is that is this a decent deal & will the truck handle the load over a period of time?
I was looking at F-250's but due to a recent announcement from the wife in regards to current home population I have to seriously reconsider my racing plans, or at least the amount of equipment & funds I'm willing to expend entertaining my obsession, so the 250 no longer viable.

Being a connoisseur of internet forums I though I could just run over here & run this by you guys for some quality feedback & I'm sure a laugh or two. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If the truck is in good condition and is 4X4, it definitely sounds like a good deal! See about extended warranties, and check out the value on kbb.com before you even consider buying. Good luck!

That price sounds about right for my area. "Increases in home populations" usually have a temporary negative effect on racing hobbies. Good luck w/ the truck and the new head of household!

Now is the time to buy used. The economy and low finance rates have made buying new so attractive. I wouldn't give any more than 13,000 for that truck.
