negotiation strategy for ordering "rare" options
hey guys,
i'm looking to buy a new 4x2 XLT F150 w/ the 4.6 V8, the 3.55 LS diff, and the power moonroof. as i understand it (from browsing dealer inventories online), the moonroof and to a lesser extend the 3.55 ls diff are pretty uncommon. as a result, i'll probably have to order one to get the truck in the right color with ONLY those options, since no dealers i've conversed with over email have told me "i have the exact truck you're looking for!" now, there are incentives that offer rebate or low apr on financing. my best case scenario (if i *have* to order it) would be to negotiate over phone or fax or email a below invoice price that included any extraneous "fees" and that did NOT include any current rebates, so that i could use the los APR incentives instead and finance the below invoice bid.
this seems like it'd all be possible if i weren't having to order the truck, or at least not ordering an unusual configuration, but given what i want, i'm a bit doubtful that i really have the leverage i need to make my "best case scenario" happen.
have any of you guys done something similar to this? what things did you watch out for? was there anything you wish you'd known before you bought the truck? if i'm going to make this happen, i feel like i need all the help i can get.
thanks for any advice guys, i appreciate it.

I can't speak for TX, but up here in the Northeast, the only thing uncommon about your configuration is 4X2....
3.55 is standard in 4X4, and power moon roof is very popular. I bought mine off the lot as you're wishing to do and had a choice of several colors and config's...all with 3.55 and moon roof.
This probably does not help your cause, but it's not an odd configuration, but regardless...you should be about at dealer invoice price on anything!
Good luck.

Thanks MrBill, you're truck sounds incredible.
It's kind of funny, you'd think that a sunroof would be more popular on a vehicle in a warmer, drier climate, right? oh well...
