Question What to Pay for 2001 Screw Lariat

I have been lurking on this board for a few days now and have learned a lot. Thanks to everyone here.

I am about to purchase my first Ford truck and was looking for some advice. I am close to buying the 2001 Screw Lariat with captains chairs, trailer/tow package, 5.4L v8, and moonroof.

My dealer is offering this configuration to me at $30,800 for factory order. I live in the Northeast and do not want to pay destination fees. Ford is also offering a 2.9% APR financing for 36 months.

Is this a good deal on the truck and does anyone know of any better financing then 2.9%? What have others paid for the 2001 Screw Lariat?

Thanks.

Homerun04:

You can get a great idea about selling price from Herb Chambers Ford in Braintree, MA. They have been exceptionally pleasant with me and actually quote on the phone, sales personnel are salaried and are not paid commission. Their pricing policy is "no haggle", everyone gets the same price....I highly recommend it.

Regarding destination fee.. dealers pay this regardless, it is not negotiable. You should be able to buy a Supercrew for 87.5% to 88% of MSRP plus destination fee....NO MORE FOR A FACTORY ORDER, dealers get 3 to 4.25 % of MSRP as a hold back payment. In short they can sell a $31,000 vehicle below "invoice" because they pay invoice less 3 to 4.25%. 'Blue Oval' dealers get the higher hold back. Example: $31,000 MSRP including destination fee should price like this: ((31,000 - 715)* .88) + 715 = $27,366 or less. This works out to be about $100 below what they tell you they pay for the vehicle. Take a look at Edmunds.com car buying guide site.

One more thing....stay away from the 'SLIME OF ALL FORD DEALERS' - QUIRK FORD in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Let us know how you make out.

Regards,

Mr. Bill

Thumbs up

I recently ordered roughly the same vehicle here in the Denver area. It was fairly simple, I knew exactly what options I wanted, wrote them down, along with the order code, invoice price and MSRP. Add it all up and calculate the dealer profit (3% of MSRP, not inc. destination) and write that.
I walked into the showroom, asked for the fleet sales manager, told them I was certain I could get the truck at invoice, and told them this was an easy deal for them. In and out in 5 minutes.
BTW, www.invoicedealers.com gave me an online price of about $250 over invoice.
If you show the fleet manager you know what you are doing (by the neatly typed document you provide) I think they are less likely to want to ****er.
Good Luck
