My first payment came out today, I have 47 more to go. I put $5000 down and financed the rest at 0% for the 48 month term and it costs me about $660 a month. This is all in canuck bucks so the numbers in real money work out to about 3400 down and 420 a month for 48 months. The invoice price for my truck was 37k and change, which is about 24k in real money.

Use the equity in your house and refinance it to payoff your truck loan (while your at it do the credit cards and anything else you can think of. Uncle Sam will then allow you to deduct all the interest off your income taxes. I did this and it saves a bundle on a $25,000 plus (out to door) truck.

Put close to 17K down. Financed the rest at 4.9% for 36 months; $415 per month. However; I'm going to pay it off in one year, that works out to about 1K a month.

P.S. Something unusual. If you make extra payments (like I have been), Ford Credit takes them off the front not the back of your loan. Usually when you pay extra that does not afford you the ability to miss a payment. However on my current truck I could stop making payments until next March or so if I wanted to.

Sold a lot of weed! Ha-ha-ha! Seriously, I saved up the jack until I could pay for it. Car payments are a burden, even on their good days.

I paid $0 down, and financed the full $38,000 CDN through the credit union where I worked.
The total loan was over 7 years, at $560 CDN per month. I'm almost at the 2 year mark.

heres my trick to paying cash. stay single with no kids, go get a job driving a truck. live in it for a year, save up about 60-70 grand. buy that truck and whatever else. then start your family. truck comes first though. priorities:-)
