How much deposit on an ordered truck?
Hey everyone who ordered a new truck -
How much deposit(if any)did you have to pay when you ordered your truck?
Does the deposit count as down payment? (I assume it does)
Can you get your deposit back? (like if the truck comes in different than ordered, or you change your mind)
Thanks!

Hey UtahBrian,
I put $500 down when I ordered my Lariat. Usually the deposit ranges anywhere from $500 to $1000.... depending on the dealer. The down payment is just a show of good faith, so the dealer knows you're truly interested and kinda keeps you from going to different dealers.
"Yes" the deposit goes towards your down payment. They add that in when you're finishing up the deal along with your trade-in, down payment or both.
"Yes" you can get your deposit back if you change your mind or if the truck you ordered didn't come out right.... ie. wrong color, engine etc. It may be like pulling teeth to get your deposit back, but you would get it back. The only thing you've done is ordered a truck, you haven't bought it yet. When you finalize the deal and sign the required paper work, then the truck becomes yours. So, you can change your mind. In most cases though, someone ordering a truck is 99% sure they're going to buy it, because it's being made just the way they want it. Also, it's a good way to get a lower price on your dream truck.... easy sale for the dealer! Start off somewhere around invoice price! The only thing with ordering is you have to be "PATIENT". That was the hardest part for me. But once I drove onto the lot and seen my F-150.... it was well worth it! Good Luck....

Just a handshake here, too. I think it was that easy because the salesman knew that if I didn't want it when it came in, he would have no problem finding someone who did.

$500...They tell me that they expect delivery in the beginning of April. It's taking longer that I thought it would. I'm driving my wife nuts. It's too much time for me to worry about whether I picked the right options.
How long have you guys been waiting?

I put $200 on the first F-150 I ordered in Nov., they called and said some things wern't avail the way I wanted them so I went in and got a refund and went to a dealer that knew their trucks better. I put $500 on this and it is supposed to be on the 20th. I ordered a Ranger with only $100, it depends on the dealership, I believe.
Also, a bit of personal advice on deposits. If you can, put it on a Visa or Mastercard. You can pay it in a month without finance charges. (interest free) The advantage is, if something goes South (pardon the expression) then you can have the credit card company dispute the charge for you. All you have to do is give Visa (or Mastercard) the details of what happened, they will immediately reverse the charge and go after the dealer for "their" money.
Credit Cards are WONDERFUL if used properly!

My dealer wouldn't take a charge card for the deposit. I had a Ford Citibank card that gave a 2% rebate on new car purchases for all charges. I wanted to use it to put down a 15,000 deposit and get another 300 off the truck.
I had already accumulated a 1300 rebate anyway.
Of course, I would have been hurting if the charge bill came before the truck showed.

I ordered mine 1/22/00 and it's *supposed* to be built this Monday. If so, the delivery should be ~10 days putting in on the 23rd. Of course, this is the third date I've been given (first was the last week in Feb.) so I'll believe it when I have the keys in my hand...

I also put $500.00 down when I ordered. Waiting was very hard, but I got lucky. My truck showed up on the lot the day after they told me it was to be built. It was well worth the wait to get "my" truck.
