Should I fear the mileage?
1998 F150 Extended cab long bed 5.4, completely tricked out with all the options. Immaculately maintained inside, out and under the hood, you could eat off this engine compartment. What looks like complete service records five years back. 175K miles. Owner is asking $5000 firm. Should I fear the mileage?
By my sysname, I'm new to driving pickups. I've had a '93 F150 for a short while and now I'm hooked.

Probably not to worry
Since You have the service records going back 5 years, I would say some one did their best to take care of it. I recently purchased a 97-F-150 4.6 with 200,000 on it and all also received several years service records. My truck is tight gets good gas milage. The first thing I did upon purchase though was to do a complete service, all filters and fluids. I gave 3,500.00 for mine but It also had minor body damage to be repaired. by the time I had that work done I had almost $5k in mine and now that I have started mods i am well over that. There is a thread on this site you can look at that shows how many trucks are out there with even more miles than mine and that are still in good shape. Just keep in mind preventive maintenance goes a long way to life of truck.
I'd work on getting the price down. 5K is a lot for that kind of miles. But 175K on a well maintained 98 isn't unreasonable. And if you're getting the records, you've got a reference to look at to see when things were done. Out of all the F150's I've owned, my 98 was the best built.
But get that price down and go enjoy the truck.

my gf's dad has over 300,000 miles on his truck. serviced regularly and no major work done. the paint is faded because its a work truck and doesn't get washed and waxed regularly but the engine is just as strong as it was the day he bought it.
