Invoice ?

I went to the dealer looking for a specific truck. They did not have it but they found one through their network. Well, They are trying to tell me if they get the truck for me they have to pay invoice price for it. Are they blowing smoke or what?

Usually dealers will trade vehicles among each other. I knew a guy that used to be a porter that would drive vehicles from one dealer to another and return with the vehicle that they traded for what the customer wanted. Dealers naturally want you to buy from what they have on their lot.
Also the dealers get a holdback around $1200 for each vehicle from the manufacturer to assist the dealer in short term financing until the car is sold. So even if they sold the vehicle at invoice, they still make Hold back plus any other factory incentives from the manufacturer that the public is not privy to.
Deal is if the dealer wants your business and future business then they will get the vehicle and work to give you the best possible deal as the vehicle was on their lot or go buy it from the dealer that has it. Presently it is a buyers market.

They wouldn't tell me and I searched the surrounding dealers inventory on the net and couldn't find it.

Just tell them you're ready to sign on the dotted line today if they get it today. What they need to do to haggle with a neighboring dealership to get you the truck you want is none of your concern. If they won't get you the truck you want from another dealership, either visit another dealership, or order the one you want. Don't compromise because the dealership is trying to leverage you. It's a game. They can get what you want, but they're going to try and squeeze every dime out of you any way they can.

I've purchased 2 new Fords via the Dealer Trade route. A 1990 F150 and a 1996 Aerostar. Price was dealer invoice (not MSRP) plus $500. Matter of fact the Aerostar was obtained from my local dealer on a trade by the dealer 120 miles away. Local dealer wanted close to MSRP because it was AWD and they were unwilling to "deal". The dealer I purchased from traded for 2 AWD Aerostars that day and sold one to me and the other to another resident of this town.
