Tranny noise in Park...
I've got a 2000 XL with a 6 cylinder. It's got about 39000 miles (74000kms) on it. I use it for work, and my work is a doozy. I operate newspaper vending machines, therefore it does over 215 starts and stops per night, 364 days a year. LOTS of SHIFTING!!!
Anyway, it's begun to make a noise when it is idling in Park. When it is idling (once the tranny is nice n warm) and in Park it sounds like there is an eggbeater on under the truck. The sound is localized where the tranny connects to the engine. It started a week ago as a kind of squeek that sounded like it was spinning loose. Now it sounds like an eggbeater. The sound happens MOST of the time. I left it at the dealership for the day with the details I've posted here. Guess what? "We don't hear any noise. We've taken it out a couple of times, no noise."
So...now what? They want me to bring it in to the dealer when it starts making the noise again. That's great, 'cuz I work from midnight to 6am, and that's when it gets warm enough to make the noise. No dealerships are open then...
Anyone with any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks
