Post Transmission vibration

I have a 2001 Super Crew with a 5.4 automatic. I noticed that while driving in overdrive if I back out of the throttle a slight vibration develops. The vibration will subside when the throttle is reapplied.
Is this a sign of the dredded trans gremlins I have heard so much about.

Question

The prob. with my 01 f150 that I have, is when the EOD transmission is warm in drive and the truck is stoped I can feel a low freq. vibe. in the brake pedal. The dealer said that I need to have an "anti rattel" spring put in they are doing it as I write. Have you heard of such a thing?

Thanks for your reply Hot Dog. Your problem sound a little different than mine. The vibration that I feel comes through the floor and through the steering wheel while the vehicle is at cruising speed. Let me know if you have any luck with your dealer.

Cool

well the latest update was today, the dealer can't fix it so now I am looking at another week at least before I get it back. The good news is I wont have a "FIXED" transmission it will be new. The bad news is I still dont know what realy caused it to make noise in the first place. What have you done about your truck? Have you had anyone look at it? A buddy of mine has a 01 f150 with the 5.4 he picked up a vibe took ti back and they found a bad u joint you may want to start there. Keep me posted

I've been putting off going the the dealer since that can become quite a hassle. The U-Joint may be a good starting point thanks for the info. Glad to hear they are replacing the trans insted of screwing around with your damaged one. Did you happen to see the Crash test on Dateline the other night, seems the F150 did not hold up well in a 45mph 40 degree frontal collision.

I think that the reason it didn't hold up well is that there is no pillar behind the driver door. The way the seat looked was what bothered me. I asked my friend if it was the u joint just to be sure I was right. He said that they replaced the u joint because the drive shaft had thrown a weight and that they come as one unit, (the weight and the drive shaft that is) so when they replaced the shaft they did the u joint also.

I see your problem everyday, especially in my 97 150. I have the auto behind the 4.2L and it does the same thing. My dealer put it on the diagnostic and came up with nothing. He went so far as to drive it overnight himself, but he couldnt duplicate the vibration. I have finally resided my self to just drive the damn thing until the tranny falls out. LOL
