Transmission flush without filter change ???
I have been told by a Ford garage if they flush and re-fill your transmission fluid you do not have to change the trans filter. I would think that the magnet would continue to cling onto metal particles during and after the flush. Any opinions??
The replacement filter is a measly $10-$18.00 depending on where you buy it. When I changed mine, the filter media was very dark, indicating it was catching something. The fluid was beautiful....bright red, clean, and smelled fresh. I believe not changing the filter is a mistake. You are already in there and the cost is minimal. Why take the chance??
Would you change your engine oil and not change the filter? Of course not. It's like that suction gizmo to remove your engine oil through the dipstick hole.
The dealers have to compete on price with all the quick-lube places, so they cut corners by not dropping the pan. You could have a completely clogged filter and the flush wouldn't do a damn thing about it.

I had the filter changed when I has my tranny and coverter flusked. It was like $180 after taxes at hte dealer. They did it in 1 1/2 hours and they even washed the truck.

When changing I spent:
-13qts fluid @ $2.97 ea = $38.61
-Filter @ $13.00
Total of $51.61
Took about an 1 1/2 hours start to clean up and test drive. The extra money you pay at the dealership keeps your hands, (face, hair, eyes, & armpits also), from getting covered with tranny fluid. I guess I must be a glutten for punishment!! Seriously, I do enjoy doing the work and LOVE saving the $$$ for more toys !
