Question for you, since you seem to be one of the most knowledgable here.
I want to flush the trans on my wife's 95 cutlass, and I want to do it myself. Do you know if the torque convertor has a plug on it, and secondly, is it possible to disconnect the radiator lines and flush it yourself?

Shoot! After I posted my reply, I re-read your question -- and I had missed the point that you asked about a CUTLASS!!!!

Well, I'll let you in on one of my secrets -- I monitor the activity for several areas on the International Automotive Technician's Network (IATN) -- and you can too (just pretend to be a mechanic/technician -- and sign up at: http://www.iatn.net/ ).

Bottom line: I have no clue about the torque convertor plug -- but I'd bet my *** that the answer to the do-it-yourself question is "yes").

I'll leave my original reply below, just cuz I took some time to write it. Here goes...

Factory Tech is the undisputed expert on these automatic transmissions -- but from what I've read from first-hand posts from owner-mechanics, there's a drain plug on the torque converter that is supposed to be discarded (which nobody does) and replaced with a new one. Some have merely re-used the plug -- with one recent poster using a replacement from a hardware store (I gather it's a tapered-thread pipe-type plug -- my editorial: balance is important, so I'd vote for a re-use if it seemed to make sense -- and never use teflon tape on any machine that uses tiny orifices for passing fluid -- since it cannot be 'disolved' or diluted like any other 'normal' thread sealant -- and if it obstructs a logic-hole, you're screwed!).

The filter impressed me as being worthy of praise (I retrieved it from the dealer at change-time) -- and the pan gasket is reportedly re-usable (I have no first-hand experience here, however).

Again, only from reading the first-hand posts of the Real experts, it appears that if the "Flush-Quick" marts can de-couple the fitting from the radiator, so should you be able to.
