Mercon V versus Mercon
Does Mercon V have the same specs as Mercon? I have founda synthetic Mercon V that I would like to use, but my tranny calls for regualr Mercon.
Can I use Mercon V in place of Mercon?
Can I use Mercon V in place of Mercon?
The owners manual says that dual usage fluids
(Mercon / Mercon V) can be used in transmissions requiring Mercon V; however, the dual usage fluids SHOULD NOT be used in trannies requiring Mercon. --- So, I'm asssuming you should not use Mercon V compatible fluids in a transmission requiring Mercon.

I think this will help.

i have a 1997 that had regular mercon in it when new. I have over 20,000 miles with mercon v in the transmission and it runs better than new. Keep in mind you cannot mix mercon and mercon v together. When i did the tranny flush mercon came out and mercon v went in. I have 55,000 on the truck now. No problems except door crack and poor paint job ( black).
