Exclamation Slow shifting tranny

I've had my 2001 SuperCrew for about a month now, and it seems that the transmission shifts slowly, especially from 1st to 2nd. I'm sure part of this is by design, to smooth the shifts out, but it seems too slow, and sometimes, if I have to punch it when it's close to a shift point, the tranny gets a little confused. Has anyone else notice this?

I assume a shift kit will fix this. How hard are these to install? The prices I've seen are all less than $100, so I'd like to install one, but I'm not sure what's involved.

Cool

Superchip cured mine, it will quicken and firm up the shifts, I used to hate when I would try to get down on it after it decided it wanted to shift and then feel it slide into the next gear.

HI!... GMEATER : I installed a BAUMANN ENGINEERING shift kit on STAGE 5 in my truck. I also am running a SUPERCHIP and had MIKE T crank the shift firmness way up above the stock program as well. It's great! It chirps the tires from 1ST to 2ND and hits 3RD really hard when at FULL throttle. This kit is a bit more money than the basic run of the mill shift kits but it is VERY high quality and I highly recommend it. Hope this helps you out.

Thumbs up

Neal,

I'm thinking about having Mike do the same with my Superchip. How much difference did it make over the standard program? DO you know what line pressures the standard program is and what the new program is?

I'm not wanting to chirp the tires or anything but I love the crispness of the shifts now and think there's room for even more....

Exclamation

gmeater,
A month may be too soon to know how your tranny will be shifting. In reading through the owners manual, I noticed a section that talked about the computer "learning" your individual driving style and setting the shift points accordingly.
Just a thought.

Hey gmeater,
I also bout a 2001 s-crew 2 weeks ago and noticed the same thing. I had made an appointment at Five Star Ford to get it looked at tommorow but think I am going to cancel. This is my 3rd F-150 and I noticed my '98 would occassionally slip and then grab (chirping the tire) during a first to second shift. After a couple thousand miles it stopped doing it. My current truck only has 900 miles. Im gonna give it a little while longer.
