dependable transmission
I just bought a 1990 f150 w/ a M5OD (Mazda)tranny.
Do you know anything about these trannys? Are they good/dependable?
Mine has 132k and I just changed the fluid in mine.
Except for a little grinding from 2nd to 3rd, and a REALLY REALLY low geared 1st, (can't even get to 15mph w/o almost redline the motor) the tranny seems to be great.
Your thoughts/comments are welcome.

The M50D tranny is made by MAZDA for Ford, it is a very strong transmission and reliable. The first gear is a compound or better known as a "granny". In normal driving it is not used. It really works if you are towing or caring a heavy loading and you are correct, you don't stay in it long. As far as changing the fluild, I would use 90W-120W gear oil, just make sure it is at the right level. You don't have to change it.
