Hard shift 2nd gear to 3rd
I have a 1997 2WD auto transmission F150. In 1999 I took the truck in for the 2-3rd gear hard shift. No problem found, though a transmission flush was reccomended, which I did but it did not help). Last week (Jan 5, 2001) I took it in since the OD indicator light was blinking. The dealer replaced the 2 to 3 accumalator piston, cleared up the hard shift and blinking light. Problem - the work was considered out of warranty even though the problem was brought to their attention in 1999 (under warranty). Has anyone else had a similar problem? Ford is sticking to thier guns that the truck is out of warranty. My point is that is wasn't when I first brought it in. Any suggestions?
I have a 97 as well, its 4x4 though. dont think that matters but I have had the same problem with my tranny shifting hard between 2 and 3. It revs way, way up then shifts very hard. Havent brought it in to get checked but have been thinking about what it is. Let me know if you find anything out.
brianob, We took my girlfriends mustang in because it had an exhuast leak when it was still under warranty...They said nothing was wrong..Then about a month later we took it back (out of warranty) and they said we would have to pay because it was out of warranty...kind of sh*&^y i think>>>
My '97, 4x4 with 4.6L, changes hard from 2 to 3. It also stutters before changing. My friend had the same problem and it was the piston. Mine is out of warranty, but like you I notified them BE-FREAKING-FORE the warranty ran out. I have a new Escape ordered for my wife. I may try and blackmail them. "Hey, fix the truck or cancel the new Escape order!" I looked for a TSB that fit, but did not find one. Good luck! BTW, how much did the acc. piston job cost?

If you have anything that gives a time and date from the last time you took it in they have to fix it under warranty, they said they fixed the problem, didn't, and now want you to pay for what they should have done, show them the paperwork that says you brought it in for that problem under warranty and if they say no tell them you'll go see a lawyer(or do) and they will fix it.
