Should I start syn fluid now?

I have a '99 150 4.6 liter with 170,000 miles on it. No problems whatsoever so far (except for replacing the alternator) and I've done all maintenance as Ford requires.

I'm coming up on the third time to change the transmission fluid and I'm wondering if there would be any upside, or downside, to start using synthetic fluid.

I've been using Mobil 1 since 36,000 on the engine. I've changed the tranny fluid at 60,000 and 120,000.

Just wanting to get opinions. And I've found in reading this forum that's something that's not in short supply!

Thanks,

Al in Tennessee

Tranny Type?

What type of transmission do you have? Look on your door jamb and I believe if it says code "U" then you have the R470W. It uses Mercon V. (Which is a synthetic based fluid) So if you've done this at the dealer then you've been using synthetic all along.
