Thought I would share this with everyone. My 99 4x2 5.4 had to have its 4R100 replaced last week. I had noticed over the last couple of weeks that the transmission was acting strange. First, whenever I started it in the morning and got going, it would take at least 5 minutes before it would shift into overdrive. Second, it began shifting extremely hard. Third, I new something was really wrong when the truck acted like it had a stall converter.

So I took the truck to a dealer. He drove it, didn't like it and decided it needed a new transmission. He said that Ford had issued a recall (although I have never heard of one) and the best thing to do would be to replace it. So that's exactly what he did. The truck has 18000 miles on it so he did it under warranty. I took it in on the Friday before Christmas and he was done the Tuesday after Christmas. Talk about quick turnaround! So for those of you that are having problems, don't wait! It's not going to get any better! Have it checked out and fixed before your warranty runs out.
