Im new to the board, and new to fords also. I just got an 89 F150 4x4, with the 300-6 and 5 speed trans. The clutch slave is leaking, and I want to replace it. I know that it is mounted over the trans input shaft, no problem there..but how do you get the hydraulic lines off the slave? Do I need a special tool? Also, this truck probably has never been in 4low, and I cant get the xfer shifter to get in low. Any tricks, or should I just be able to pull it back? I dont want to break anything, but I am pulling pretty hard and it wont budge. Thanks for any info!

The clutch slave cylinder uses a spring lock to retain the line. They do make a tool used to release it. You can get it at about any auto parts store. They're inexpensive & save you from destroying a expensive line !

With the trans in nuetral, and at a complete stop, pull the lever back, when it doesn't come back any more easily, your tcase should be in nuetral, push down on the lever, and pull back, and it should let you into 4 lo. They designed th linkage so you have to push down to keep shifter happy drivers from pulling it all the back towards 4lo and grinding the gears when shifting on the fly
