Mercon vs. Mercon V
Mercon vs. Mercon V
Guys/Gals,
I have a question for the group. Does anyone know if using Mercon V in your tranny will harm it if it specifies Mercon?
I had my tranny flushed at Valvoline and they put Mercon V in it. This is the second time. He said their computer system called for Mercon V in my truck.
I know specs change as now the dealer uses the 5w20 instead of 5w30 for engine oil. The dealer says it should be ok as they think Ford specs 99 and newer to use the Mercon V. They say Mercon V is a synthetic based fluid and just gives you a longer change interval.
Anyone have any thoughts or opinions one way or the other?
Thanks,
John

You're right,
I should've done a search. Which I just did and found out all I need to know and more aboput Mercon V and regular Mercon
This one is almost as bad as which oil and filter
Thanks,
John
