Shift Kit Problems?
I just went to have a local Trans.shop(good rep.) install a TransGo shift kit in my F-150. About 5 hrs after I dropped the truck off I got a call from the shop and they said they were having problems with my truck. Apparently, after the shift kit was installed, if you gave it any more than 1/2 throttle the Pressure relief valve would dump the fluid. In turn causing the trans to slip(badly). Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I'm stumped, only thing I could thing of is that my Superchip is pushing too much line pressure combined with the shift kit? Any opinions or ideas would be greatly appreciated....Thanks
Yes,
I just had the exact same problem with my 97 f150 less than a week ago. My transmission guy was stumped, even after talking Transgo we had no luck. He called another local shop and they mentioned having the same problem. They had to replace the Forward Clutch Rings on the back of some pump (they are included in the Transgo shift kit). That requires you to drop the transmission. My symptoms were exactly the same as the ones the other local shop was having, which is the same as yours.
We ended up putting in a Shift Technologies (Fairbanks), Superior shift kit and it shifts great! Not dissing transgo cause I know that 80% of the guys on here have used it with great results. It just wouldn't work in my situation.
