Question Drain Tube?

Yesterday when I got home from work, I had to stop on a slight incline with my truck. My dad was looking under my truck while I was sitting there and noticed that there was a clear liquid running from under my truck. I wasn't running the air cond. and it didn't rain that whole day so it wasn't that. I crawled under my truck and noticed a small metal tube leading what looks like from the top of the tranny. It looks like some sort of drain for the tranny. It would be on the passenger side of the truck about 3-4 inches to the side of the tranny. This is the only place that I could find where that liquid was coming from. But it wasn't red or green in color. It looked like water. Does anyone know what that tube is for? I do have an automatic.

I have seen those on transmissions for
years but I've never seen any thing come out of one. I always thought they were some sort of pressure release or vent for
the fluid. have you driven through any water lately that could've made it's way into the trans? This sounds really odd.
It could condensation form a sudden temp change, too. Any body else have any
ideas? sorry I couldn't help more,,,,,,,,,98

What model is on the transmission ID tag (just forward of the extension housing, drivers side). I can look in the model mix chart and see if it's a drain tube. It's possible that it's a condensation drain.
Anyhow, with the code I can look up what the tube is.

Well after looking under my truck for about 15 minutes, I can only find two different codes on the tranny. I was looking for some tag that was connected to one of the bolts but I couldn't find any. I did see these two different codes though. The first was printed on the tranny right above the shift selector. The other one was about 12 inches down from there, just in front of the transfer case. The first code was
RF-F7AP-700G-AA.
second code : F2TP-7A040-BA.

Let me know if these are the right codes or not. Also, but these codes, could you tell me which model of trannsmission I have?

Thanks for your help
Much appreciated.

I don't believe the transmission has a drain tube and I do believe the clear liquid you saw was water (condensation) from the air condintioner.
I ran my a/c for over an hour and turned it off a couple of blocks from home and still found a puddle of water on the floor of my garage. When th ehumidity is high these things draw a lot of water from the air.

I would say you have nothing to worry about.

My truck is a 98 with the 4.6L. I havn't ran my a/c in about 3 weeks. I have not seen it leak again, but would like to know what that tube is. Factory Tech, do you work at a Ford dealership or something. Or do you have a very detailed manual?

I work at the Sharonvile Transmission Plant. Your transmission is a 4R70W, built at the Livonia Plant. According to the build sheet you don't have a case vent tube, just a "jiggle cap". I would guess that it is a condensation drain tube from the A/C, Like the guy said, high humidity can make them condensate, and remember that the compressor runs when you have the defroster on, even with the fan off. Anything coming from the transmission would be either red or brown in color, if it's brown it's a bad thing, red it's fine.
