Anyone know what the function is and if there is a tester avialable to check this or do I have to rely on the dealer.

Manual Lever Position Sensor, and you have to trust the dealer, sorry couldn't have better news.

Thanks Factory_tech I replaced the MLP sensor and She's running great!
