Angry Trim Ring on Gearshift Lever keeps Coming off

The little trim ring on the end of the gearshift lever keeps popping off.
It's the ring that goes around the OD off button.
Anybody else had this problem?

Hello 54regcab:

I had the same problem. One or two of the plastic tabs that hold the ring in place had become damaged. I don't know how.

The ring kept on coming off, and eventually had to be replaced.

I went to the Ford Dealer to have it replaced under my extended warranty plan. The trim ring is a very simple plastic piece that needs to be installed using the slightest amount of attention to assure correct installation. Needless to say, the "mechanics" failed to reinstall the new ring properly, and it came back off again. The Ford Dealer supplied me with another new trim ring, which I installed myself. To date, no new problems with this trim ring.

I can't imagine that the trim ring would cost any more than five dollars, and I would recommend you install it yourself.

Good Luck.

Wilk

I am glad to see that I am not the only one that has had that problem...I should have it done by a dealership, but then that would probably mean another two days in the dealership for diagnosis, then another day to install.....thinking that super glue looks better to me all the time, then I never have to worry about it agian, and if it should need to be removed, let some tech remove it, and break it, then I can blame them......

I really would avoid glue, because if the bulb for the "off" light burns out, you'd be up a creek without a paddle

Well, to tell you the truth, I probably won't have the truck that long, as the regional Ford Representative is meeting with me today about my truck....and all of the problems that I have had with it....So then agian, I probably won't worry about it at all then....let the next person worry about it!!!
