Angry grinding

I have a 99 F150 5spd and it grinds in 1st when it is put in fast and 3rd gear is really ruff. I think that it might be the cluch becouse it was over heated once and it squels loud. I'm running synthetic oil. If you have an idea of why this is happaning let me know. I have over 85000km on the truck and it is passed warrenty. THANKS

How do you adjust these cluches.

It sounds like your clutch is dragging. That is, it is not releasing completely. Make sure it is properly adjusted, and that the clutch pedal is able to travel the full amount.

Overheating a clutch tends to glaze the disc and can make them slip, but not drag.

Are you sure the squeal is the clutch? It could be the throw out bearing. If it squeals when you release the clutch it's the bearing.

According to the Helms manual the clutch is self adjusting, so if it is no longer in proper adjustment either it is worn out (and should slip not drag) or something is either broken or binding.

Have you tried bleeding it? If there is any air in the system it can prevent the clutch from fully releasing.
