Smile tranny pan with drain plug $35

Well checked at my local ford dealer and the f-250 tranny pan with drain plug fits my 98 e40d trasmission in my f 150. They say it fits the 4r100 tranny also. Total cost $ 35.00. Best deal I've got since the last deal I got. No need for the $25.00 gasket . The old one is a re-useable type. Just be careful when taking the old pan off.Capt.

My 2000 4R100 has that pan on it from the factory - now they need an external, more accessable filter. By the way, mine is a Cal spec truck.

Ron - I wondered why they didn't put one on the eailer models? Several back to back drains should keep the fluid fairly fresh. I'll use the ford filter in the tranny. No problems so far... Thought about an aftermarket pan with extra capacity but the ford pan was hard to pass up. Keep on FORD Truck'n! Capt.

Capt America - They probably started using that pan on the 2000s because of many customer complaints about the lack thereof. I wonder if we changed our trans fluid more often using the drain plug if we could get extended life out of our filter?

Yes, that drain plug was a good idea huh? One of the things that sold me on a Super Duty. Problem still is the disposalbe filter in place. Seems like the Ford places are all pushing this "Flush" thing because they now have the machines but they forgot about what to do with the disposable filter. None of the service managers I have asked seems to know how these filters will hold up to the flushing! It is very difficult to flush one and change the fliter as well. It takes twice the fluid to do it that way. If they were to go to a micro screen that could be backflushed they would be able to market this flush machine better. Nissan does not put a disposable filter in their vehicles. Just a screen, making the flushing more palatable and effective without a filter to change.

What a great idea Capt America! Did the pan come with the magnet around the drain hole?

The factory pans come with a magnet, but even the non-drain plug pans have one. As for the filter, it should be okay with the flush system, don't buy an aftermarket filter, they're not as good as the factory one.
And for the 100th time, E4od and 4R100 are the same transmission, the name was just changed after a model year, the difference is no more than any other year to year difference. As for the deep pan, there are currently 30 models of the 4R100, and a few more than half of them come with a plugged pan, all 4X4's have it and about half of the 4X2's do. If you want the plugged pan, it's no problem to switch, just remember you need more fluid.

Factory_Tech- Thanks for the great info. I missed the previous post on E40D and 4R100 being the same. What transmission fluid do you reccommend. I will change the filter with the factory one and refresh the fluid fairly often. Capt.

Brand of Fluid?...gee, I dunno..we don't exactly get it in quarts at work ( we have about a 6000 gallon tank, it's massive) so I don't even know what comes in them stock. I just use whatever the manual says to use, Motorcraft brand. I'm of the opinion that the choices are synthetic or regular and the brands, among the big ones are pretty much interchangable. I use Quaker State Motor oil, though, religiously.

Does the 99.5 Lightning have this deeper drain pan with plug. Some guys are having a boost bypass valve open on th supercharger when the tranny temp sensor reaches setpoint, what ever that is ,not sure how hot it needs to get before this happens. Usually after a few burnouts and runs down the quarter. The tranny cooler seems to be insuffcient. Some have added a aftermarket pan. If F-250 pan fits I think it requirs about 4 more quarts. Is this the pan on th 99.5 Lightnings ?

Lightnings come with the shallow pan, you can change it ot a 4x4 plugged pan, just add the extra fluid. The critical temp on fluid is 90 degrees, until it goets this hot, the converter wion't lock up.
The blower question is something I don't know a thing about, sounds like it has to do with a max temp to me. You'd have to ask an engine guy on that.

Question

Will this pan work with my 4R70W tranny on my 99 F150 4x4 (with 4.6)? Mine does not have a drain plug.

Thanks

BassDean- What I did was drive to the ford lot and look underneath one that has a drain plug. I checked the bolt pattern, number of bolts, and spacing. Everything was a match with mine. Had to be sure before I ordeed it. After I checked the parts guy also confirmed that he thought it would fit. Can't say with yours.
