Question What Tranny

I am new to f150 online and want to know what tranny. Spec sticker show a 'U' under TR. Does this mean I have the 4R70W? My truck has the class III towwing package with the trans/electical cooling.

Is the 4R70W a good tranny? I will be towing a 5000# trailer 4000 miles a year?

Lotsa,

Yes the U means you have the 4R70W transmission. I have no idea if it is a good transmission or not, it has not really been around long enough for there to be a firm answer on that. I will be towing my 64 Falcon over some pretty good 5-7% grades in about two months. I'll let everyone know how my new truck handles it.

The 4R70W has been around for quite a while. Hauls the Expedition and 3000 lb boat all over NE OK. It has been "beefed up" for 2000 and is now being used behind the 5.4L engines too.

Question

Does the 'E' under TR on the spec sticker stand for E4OD? What is the difference between the E4OD and the 4R70W? Everyone I talk to has a different opinion. Is 2000 the first year for the 4R70W behind the 5.4? Thanks for the info.

Question

A similar question: I've got a '92 F150 with a "T" in the transmission space. Is this an AOD or AOD-E tranny? or something else?

Thanks.
