Question Overdrive button

Ever since I installed my new stereo, I've had a problem with the overdrive button. I start the truck up and its lit up in off position. It is actually off too. But I can press the button in and get the overdrive to engage but the light stays on. From that point on I cannot disengage the overdrive until I shut it off and start it back up.

Since I had the battery disconnected while installing the stereo I thought it might have something to with it. So Sunday night I unhooked the battery all night, hooked it back up Monday afternoon and still the same thing. The only thing I unhooked during stereo installation was the 4x4 selector and it works fine.Any suggestions before I have to take it to the dealer?

Cool

Sounds like a wiring problem.
The "default" for Overdrive is ON (with the indicator light OFF). Pushing the button should switch those two conditions. Pushing it again should put it back to the original state.
Who hooked up the radio? and where did they tap into power?
If everything worked BEFORE the radio installation, I'd revisit that area to double check things. If it's a botched radio install, the dealer will CHARGE you to correct the problem - rightly so!
Good luck.
Please let us know what you found because some folks have posted that they wanted their Overdrive default to be OFF - nobody knew how to do that. YOU have found the solution!

Smile

Well, I'm laughing right now since you asked who installed the stereo. I did it myself. However, I got factory wire harness from Crutchfield so I know its not a wiring problem. All wiring goes to stock stereo wires.
Thanks for the advice though. Just to be sure I think i will look under the dash to see if maybe I accidently cut a wire or something. I doubt it though since the only wires I touched were audio.

Maybe a dislodge or pinched wire when you replaced some trim or pushed the stereo home?
