I just got a 99 F-150, ext cab, 4x4, XLT, 5.4 liter, and when the truck is shifting from 1st gear to 2nd it makes a vibrating noise and even shakes the cab. I have taken it to the dealer and they cannot seem to find out what it is!! If anybody can help me I'd appreciate it.

 

It sounds like what mine sometimes does. I have a 97 F150 4X4 4.6 single cab with auto transmission. I bought the truck from a good friend in April 1998 with 39000 miles on it. He had bought it new and taken very good care of it but just had highway miles on it. The 4X4 was only used at the deer lease, never abused. When I got it, it done this vibration or shudder pretty often but not always. I asked him about it and he said it had always done it. In Sept. 98 I took it and had the transmission fluid and filter changed. That stopped the problem. But now in Dec. 99 it started doing it again occasionally so I had it changed again. Its better but occasionally does it. The guy at the transmission shop said that if it didn't stop it that it could be the "converter" that would cost $395.00. If it gets worse, I will take it somewhere else because I'm not too happy with him due to what I call misleading advertising. Does yours do this all the time or occasionally?

 

It only does it occasionally, like once or twice every two weeks. It is frustating me!
I think I'm going to take it back to the dealer and have them check the "converter" if the noise gets worse.

When I last replied to you, I had just taken my truck to get the fluid and filter changed and it still done it occasionally. Now I can't make it do it for the past two days. May be it just takes a little while for the new fluid to get worked in or something. This is just in case they can't find anything wrong with yours. If mine was still under warranty, I would do the same thing. But since it's not, I do the cheapest things to try to eliminate the problem first. Let me know the outcome. Thanks!

 

Hi:

I think I have a transmission problem that maybe some one can help me with. In the morning when I frist start up the transmission make a cluck sound when I slow down to about 10 MPH after the truck is warmed up the sound changes to a softer click sound not all the time but 2 out of 5 times. It only happens when I slow down and the transmission down shifts .
