Angry Trans Leak

6275 mi and I took it in for a small tranny leak. Two days later I am told I may get it back monday. The front seal was leaking due to a casting defect in the torque converter where the spline goes. Part won't be here untill monday.

Question

Well I finally got my truck back today, with new torque converter, I think. Reading over the invoice the items I am questioning are,
Part Number: Desc: QTY: SELL:
FMC F85Z 7902 AARM *converter ASYREMSPO 1
FMC XL3Z 7902 AARM *converter ASYREMSPO 1 150.45
SPO XL3Z 7902 AARM *converter ASY REMFG 1
The first and third numbers have no price but have a quantity of 1. Does anyone know for sure whet these mean? Please tell me they did not put a remanufactured torque converter in my truck with only 6K mi on it. I am not real familiar with transmissions, can a torque converter even be rebuilt?

Yes, torque converters can be rebuilt. But, some are welded together and I wouldn't think it would be worth the time and effort.

Where is Menasha? I did my first 17 years in Racine; about 30 miles from Milwaukee.

Cool

Menasha is at the northern tip of lake Winnebego, 25 mi south of Green Bay and 20 mi north of Oshkosh. Thanks for your input, runs good so I guess I won't mess with it.

Angry

Damn I've got the front seal leak too.
only 3,300 miles.
Should I take it back to the dealer where I bought it 45 mins away or just take it to the dealer about 5 mins from my work?
Is there any advantage to taking it back to where I bought it?
The guy who has been changing my oil for the past 3 years showed it to me and said I should ask for a new tranny.
Is this reasonable/possible?
Please reassure me that I did the right thing buying a Ford.
3,300 miles is way to early to start having problems.

I'd take it to the most convenient Ford Dealer and "report" the problem. If you wish to "demand" a new tranny, then take it to the Selling Dealer.
I think you'll get better service under your warrenty by just reporting the problem and letting Ford fix it. My .02.
Good Luck.
Sorry to hear about your leak...

Red face

OK as a follow up I took it back to where I bought it and they gave me a loaner so the 45min drive was not a problem for me.
Still no word on what is wrong or when it will be ready.

54regcab: Same thing happened to my '99 5.4 at about 3800 miles. Your parts list looks similar to mine. So far so good at 9100 miles. No more leaks and the tranny works fine.

I have the same problem i think. Noticed tranny fluid on the pan a week ago and checked the fluid level. A little down but still in the cross hatch area. Checked today and it didn't register at all. I am starting to really dislike Ford products. Everything from slap happy motors to noisy electronics(ignition, fuel pumps), and dealers that don't have a clue unless it has had a service bulletin for the problem.
