B&M ShiftPlus Improver
I am trying to acquire one for for my '98 F-150 5.4 w/auto. Does anybody know if my tranny is a 4R70W or AODE? The Ford Tech line couldn't answer this one either. Summit says the 70382 will work, B&M doesn't know...

It has all kinds of info about Ford Transmissions. The AODE and the 4R70W are basically the same.
I was planning to order the new Supercrew but I am VERY annoyed that you can't get the heavier 4R100W with the 5.4 engine. You only get the 4R100W with the 5.4 if you get California emissions, otherwise you get the 4R70W. I would go ahead and get the California emission package just to get the beefier trans, but they won't let you if you don't live in certain states.
