An expensive lesson

I will try and be as brief as possible, but the bottom line is, if you think there is something wrong with your truck, i.e. transmission, have it checked!!!!

I wrecked my truck about 4 years ago (about 68K). The frame was a bit torqued and was straightened along with other body work. About 10k mi later, I noticed a couple of things, radiator fluid level dropped, and tranny leaked. At about 109K, the motor finally died.

Took it to Ford, and they said that the radiator leaked into the timing chain housing, eventually causing engine failure. The service manager got Ford to cover that under a recall notice. At that time, I told him that the transmission leaked. They supposedly replaced the pan and gasket.

Well, the trans still leaked, but not enough to worry about. WRONG. 30K miles later, the tranny is leaking really bad, so I am going to take it in. Unfortunatley, the truck did not make it. Only reverse gear worked.

Took it in and basically they said the whole trans was shot. The sprague gear(???), torque converter, pump, and a few other names I am not famaliar with. Bottom line, $1975.00 for a rebuild.

Listen to your vehicle and perform the maintenance!!!!!

This tranny should have lasted about 300K mi.

Peace
