Hey fellow clunckers! Ford just put in the new transfer case, still making clunks! Seems a little better. They still say the 98 has the new slip yoke. PS Both of the 99 f150 4x4's that I was getting for rentals cluncked at the same point as mine!

sc and all,

sc mentioned "The slip yoke splines at the transmission output stick under this loading. Ask the dealer to liberally lubricate the driveshaft slip yoke with the blue service grease, D2AZ-19590-A part number."

Has anyone gone in and done this to see if it fixes it. It sounds like the same thing 99SDKT did. Anyone?

I'm a clunker too. Mine does it only when I accelerate. I guess I will have to get it looked at.

Since I bought my truck used last October, I,too, have had an intermittent clunk in the driveline of my '97 SC 2WD. It seems to me that it occurs when I am almost stopped, or just creeping from a stop to a roll - like you do when your waiting to enter a road from a side road. Anyway, this only happens once in a while. I did mention the problem and the associated 97-??-?? TSB the last time I was at my dealer. The mechanic's response after checking the computer was that "the TSB applies to the slip yoke on 4WD ONLY". So, for now I have been waiting to see if it gets any worse. I've got about 5000 miles left on the original warranty and 3 yrs after that on the extended. So far, it is not really any more than an occasional annoyance. Just thought I'd mention my experience. If anyone gets any answers, Please let us know.

The Factory tech is going to look at the truck next week. Let us pray! Will keep you up to date. Accordong to the dealership, the TSB for the slip yoke was for 97's during ACCELERATIOn not stoping. The 98's have the new slip yoke.

Well. the factory rep look at the truch and now claims that the noiuse is normal for this make, model and year. After 11 tries and a lot of warranty $$$ I would have thought they would know this was normal. Anyway, going to pursue the lemon law now. I don't feel this is normal and have long term wear concerns. Just a quick question. If its a slip yoke or drive shaft prob. wouldn't the noise be there whethter the OD is on or off? Mine is only there when OD is on.

My truck was doing the clunk, On the gas and on the brakes. So the dealership says no problem and sticks a whole new driveshaft in. Not a sound since, so I know the noise is not normal. Rex
