Very confused-Please help
I am going to put a transmission cooler on. I did a search in reference to which line to tap into. It seems almost everybody says to tap into the return line after the radiator cooler. That sounds right to be also but I found in the factory Ford manual on page 307-02-2 it says
"In operation, transmission fluid travels from the transmission to the auxiliary transmission cooler, if equipped, to the integral transmission fluid cooler then back to the transmission."
This is the opposite of what everybody else is saying. Also another interesting thing I saw was the fluid travels a different path in the 4r70w than the 4r100. Someone please help. Thanks.

at the fork in the road.....
i,d go through the rad first to take the heat down and then through the cooler to bring it down even further with the air temp.if i,m wrong i,m sure i would have screwed something up by now and it,s been five years
y2k,
I traced the pictures and it looks like the 4R70W has the flow from the pressure side to the rad and back and with a cooler it goes to the cooler first.
With the 4R100 or the 4EOD it looks like the flow is to the rad first with or with out the cooler.
Strange???

I just added a second cooler (probably overkill) to my 4.6 4x4 with th same tranny as you. My lines go to the rad first then to the aux. cooler. The bottom line on the side tank is the return line. Hope this helps.
