Trans suddenly slipping

I'm out of town, and the wife called today and told me the trans in her early '01 SuperCrew is slipping over 30 mph. This is the 4L70W in a 2WD 5.4. Mileage only about 12,000! About 2,000 miles ago I had the Transgo shift kit professionally installed (level 1) along with a change to the correct Mercon V spec Redline full synth tranny fluid and the oversize B+M pan with drain plug. Other mods are the Superchip, Gibson cat back, and Volant premium intake. Also has the full Hotchkis 2" drop handling package. The truck had been runnig great up until today. My wife has noticed several droplets of tranny fluid in the garage since the pan swap which I figured was from the drain plug. She also said she heard a "funny" noise from under the truck when making an full lock turn onto the driveway (twice) maybe a week or two ago.

The truck has never towed anything, been taken offroad, or even been heavily loaded. My wife drives very sedately. I haven't driven it in 2 months.

Any thoughts?

Well your first problem is you installed a TransGo :-D hehe

If it's just a slipping them it's probably just your fluid level. Too much fluid is as bad as too little. Make sure to check fluid level when the tranny is fully warned up. I would bet that is the problem.

If the fluid level is correct, there's a remote possibility the filter is not properly seated or may have dropped into the pan. Above 30 mph it might be sucking air (above pan fluid level).

It could be the fluid level and the filter. With the B&M Deep Pan, I believe you need a different filter because the pick-up tube isn't going to reach the botton of the pan. When you look at the bottom of the stock pan, that part that hangs lower is were the stock filter picks up the fluid from. Could also be that the valve body bolts were not tightened enough.

This is exactly why I'm not modifying my stock valve body.....

UPDATE!!

OK, I was back in town finally and had the guy who installed the TransGo kit (professional transmission mechanic) check the trans. It had thrown a code - bad "Shift Solenoid B". He is going to replace the bad solenoid with the correct Ford part.

He seems to think that when he replaces the solenoid the tranny will be fine, although it is "possible" the part went due to impending transmission failure.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

i think you just need to keep the WIFE from driving said truck...that will probably fix a bunch of ills!!!
