2000 F150 Yoke Broke in Half
2000 F150 Yoke Broke in Half
Hey Guys-
I've got a 2000 F150 2WD with a manual tranny.. The yoke between the back of the tranny and the drive shaft split in half.. Luckily, I was sitting at a stop sign when this happened so the damage was isolated to the yoke itself.. However, this was quite a downer for such a new truck.. I've got 55,000 miles (all highway) so, of course, no warranty.. I've never towed anything or even driven with a heavy load on the transmission..
Are there any known issues which could have contributed to this? Ever hear of this before?
Thanks in advance for any help you could provide...

probly just a bad spot in the metalor a unbalanced driveshaft or even bad u-joints...it should just be a easy fix, just get ahold of a new yoke and put in some new u-joints.....also you get the driveshaft balanced.
It sounds like you got real lucky...I've heard stories of the yoke breaking on these Fords and sending the bed of the truck up 6 feet in the air.

wow that makes me feel lucky..
why on earth would the yoke break so early? any ideas? i'm a little pissed that it broke.. the repair wasn't too bad or expensive, but it happened in the middle of nowhere in colorado while traveling. took a whole day just to find someone to tow it and another 5 days to get the part.. thanks

Why, that's easy, poor (or no) quality control. My slip yoke was replaced at 2000mi. The service tech said the yoke was as common problem as it was poorly machined.
Plant potatoes, get potatoes. I still love my truck though. Better than any GM I ever owned and I owned a bunch before I had enough abuse.

Last night the "ears" that hold the u-joint broke on the slip yoke that goes into the transmission on my 2001 SuperCrew. I was backing up a steep driveway with only 2 adults and a baby in the truck. I do not tow anything or haul heavy loads. I only have 85k miles on the truck that I bought new.
My mechanic (not the Ford dealer!) said he has never seen that happen and the local Ford dealer did not have the part in stock.
I plan to take the broken part to the Ford dealer and see what they or more specifically the Ford factory rep will do about it.
Anyone else had this issue and/or tried to get Ford to pay on such things?
