Screw tranny bites the dust
I have a 2001 Supercrew with 36.9K. It is 5.4L, 4x4. The first symptom of the problem was when it slipped going into 4th gear. After that it got progressively worse so that the o/d needed to be off in order to avoid the slip.
The dealer says that they can not even get it to go into reverse now and must be replaced.
I haven't towed anything ever with this vehicle.
As luck would have it the thing is now out of warranty. The dealer was pretty good about it and I get a new tranny for only a few hundred bucks. However, I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. Also, I'm not sure whether this vehicle has the 4r70 or 4r100 . Does someone know which one it is ?
Thanks,
T.

The supercrews only come with the 4r70w,
but other F-150's have the 4r100...specifically
a) Included on 4x4 with Class III Trailer Towing Group, 4x4 Off-Road Equipment Group and 7700 Payload Group (V8).

and if you don't believe all that...
Check the door sticker.
Trans Code U = 4r70w
There you go 3 ways to a 4r70w trans <g>
I found that out starting with looking at the 4x4 trand pan mod.
No can do it, got the wrong trans.
Does anyone know if a 4R100 would fit in there, or is there something with it that prevents it from being installed ?
The reason I ask is if I ever need a Trans I would like to go with the 4R100, and the 4x4 trans pan, and maybe even the valve line mods <g>.
The HD SCREW has it, so I cannot think of a reason it won't, but then again......you neve can tell....

Yep, my dads 2001 super crew 4x4 5.4L auto. Is getting a new trans put in right now. first the cruz wouldnt work and then the o/d light came on and I would shake around 30-40mph, so he took it in and they said the speed sencer brook and somthing else happend in there. so there putting it in right now. The truck only has 13,000 miles, he only pulls the snowmobilies. And our boat 2 times a year.

The truck is finally out of the shop after a week and the new transmission is installed. Seems to be ok.
When the truck is out of warranty you don't have much leverage at all. Even if it is only 900 miles. What they did was basically sell me a power train warranty and then covered it under that. Since this was 1/5 of what it would cost to replace the trans. it seemed like a good offer at the time.
