Unhappy Shifting Delays

Well, I've got 7000 miles on my '02 Supercab 4x4 (auto) and I had to leave it with the dealer today. My problem seems to be that when I shift from reverse to drive, I have to wait a couple of seconds before I hit the accelerator. If I give it any gas before about 2 seconds, the engine revs and then the tranny catches up and jerks. Yesterday it seemed that every time I stopped at a red light or stop sign and I went to take off, the engine rev'ed a bit and the tranny jerked.

My shifts from 1-2, 2-3, etc all seem OK.

The mechanic thinks that something is wrong and said that he will be dropping the tranny tomorrow. I really hate that because I had true duals installed and the service dept will have to cut one of my exhaust pipes to drop the tranny. Oh, well...

Anyone else have/had this problem? Any Ford techs out there with any suggestions/advice?

TIA

Creole

Creole-

Ford has become lazy about diagnosis these days. They like to yank entire transmissions out rather than fixing them to "supposedly" save time and return problems. Most of the things that would cause that problem can be diagnosed, if not fixed, by a pan drop. Certainly an analysis is in order. A decent mechanic observing those problems would immediately check the transmission fluid level, then drop the pan and look for fluid pick-up problems (filter condition, filter seal, properly installed pick-up depth, valve body gaskets, etc).
