Angry Manual Transmission Shuddering

I recently had my manual transmission worked on. All parts replaced (clutch, pressure plate, bearings, slave and master cylinders). You would think it would shift like new. But that is not the case. When I am at a dead stop and let off the clutch it feels like the it is going to jump off the road. Once I get past that though everything is fine. The only part not replaced was the flywheel, which has been cut twice. Has anyone got any ideas what might be causing this?

1997 F-150 SuperCab, 4.6 w/5 speed manual, 111000 miles.

what do you mean when you say you let off the clutch at a dead stop? If you let out the clutch and don't give it some gas the engine will start to shudder and stall. But i think you would already know that

Did they cut the flywheel this last time? I would say it is more than likeley your flywheel. If they replaced everything else they should have replaced it to in my opinion. Especially if had already been cut before. If you had brake fluid on the clutch from say a leaky slave cylinder it can cause the same thing, but you said that was all new so it almost has to be your flywheel has hot spots or it wasn't cut properly.

I had My transmission, clutch and presure plate replaced and had a simular problem. Took the truck back and told them what was going on and they said to "burn " the clutch a little. Basically put the E-brake on and ride the clutch in first gear three times twice a day for three to five days. It worked for me about the forth day. THe shop told me I had to burn the coating off the clutch. Thats what is making the truck jump or grab on your initial start. Good luck.

MY truck also does this sometimes if it has been sitting for a few days. I guess some rust forms on the flywheel.

Thumbs down Same thing happened to me

I recently had a new motor installed and while they were doing that I had them replace the clutch plate, housing and disk, which had about 80K on it. When I first got it back there were no problems, but after about 5K or 10K the clutch started to chatter. It got real bad, especially on hills. Amost to the point I could not drive it. I took it back and they replaced it and said they could see no visible signs of problems with the first one installed.

Oh well I thought. The new one was working fine until last week when I noticed that I was in the begining stages of the chattering problem again.

Interesting about the burning of the clutch. That very well could be the problem, but why not until about 5K or 10K miles. I will certainly check that proceedure out. I would like to get it fixed.

It only happens in first gear. Once out of first you never feel it. I know that last time the replaced it they said there were no hot spots on the flywheel as they had thought that might be the problem.

Any other ideas

Yes it only happens from a dead stop or slow roll and starting in first gear. Mine happenned within 200 miles of getting the preasure plate and clutch replaced. Thats weird its happenning 5-10K oo the one post. The burning of the clutch did help mine. good luck.
