Unhappy Trans acting weird need help...

hi Folks,

I am in need of some assitance.

Here is some background...
I have a 99' F-150 4x4 4.6 with AT.
The Truck has about 86k miles.

First before I was on this site I wasn't as knowedgable as I needed to be ...
for example the (Mercon/merconV thing) so I made some mistakes along the way. Ok I don't need to be bashed I do enough of that myself, but could use some help. I am not stupid I was just uninformed...

At around 60K miles I knoticed the When the truck is cold it sometimes seemed the shifting is somewhat s
lower (sluggish) in the up shift( most noticable in the 2-3 shift and the 3-o/d shift). Not always maybe 60-70% of the time and only when cold.

For example when your accelerating normally (not hammering on the gas).
From a stop (at about 3k RPM it normally upshifts) it seemed to pause around 3k rpms for a couple seconds then shift.

When it shifts up if does so normally no apperant slippage it just seems to take a couple seconds to make it's mind up... I don't notice this ever once it warms up...

This promped me to start reading and lead me to have the fluid flushed...
This was around was around 60k miles I think they used Mercon with some additive... but I didn't know about the Mercon/merconV thing so I didn't pay attention... (I am not sure if this was good/bad... I do worry about it...
alot). I didn't knotice any imporvment over a few weeks so I got concerned that they didn't change the filter so I dropped the pan and changed the filter. the goop on the magnet didn't appear to be excessive from talking to the ford mech...

Unfortunatly as I had said I was igronate to the Mercon/MerconV thing so I added 6qt. Mercon... I drove like this about 3 months I guess... Then was shocked (about crapped my pants) when I learned about the mercon/merconV thing on this site...

I immeadatly had all the fluid flushed and replaced true MerconV (Penzoil). I even made them show me the bulk oil can to make sure...

It still sometimes does the sluggish shifting when cold.

however over the past couple months I knoticed the Tranmission is acting alittle strange in over drive too.

I realize When in overdrive it is normal for the TC to lockup and unlock depending on driving conditions. I think this is really irratating but come to accept it as normal. RPMs drop by about 500-600 rpms when the TC locks up I guess...

However latley it seems that sometimes the T/C hesatates fully locking up... the rpms will drop only about 1/2 (300rpm). somtimes it will stay this way for a few seconds then fully lock-up othertimes it won't lock till i let up on the gas a slightly...

Am I just crazy or pernoid I messed up the trans? DO I have real problems?
Anyone else experience what I am discribing? if so what do I do?

Could use some help/advice. On what to do.. Please no lectures... I already know I messed up on the fluid...

Jim

Do you have the towing pkg., with the external tranny cooler? Mine delays on the upshifts until it starts warming up as well, and I have the towing pkg w/cooler. I have heard that the cooler slows the warmup of the tranny, that may be all that is going on in that dept. As far as the TC lockup, I don't know.,,,98

Sounds unusual.

My upshift delays (when cold) went away with filter change and TC drain, new mercon V.

Perhaps there is some solenoid not working properly. Are there any external solenoids on these trannies that can be replaced?
