Question Replacing manual with automatic transmission

I have a manual transmission in my 2000 F150. I was wondering if anyone has had their manual transmission replaced with an automatic? I suppose that this is possible but at what cost and would it look and perform like a stock automatic.

Thanks for the help.

I can't think of any reason that you'd want to switch to an automatic, but... In my experience, you'd be better off selling the truck and buying one that has the auto trans.

I've done it in the past. It is a real problem. There is a different computer for automatics. Along with a different wiring harness. I had a real hassle getting the thing to work correctly. I had issues with almost everything. Including the EGR system, the lockup converter, the connectors, and getting the system to function properly. As a matter of fact I never got it to work properly.

Before you claim that any qualified mechanic could do it, keep in mind that there are many unanticipated differences in the system and the information is not readily available.

I suggest purchasing an automatic truck if you need one.

I have to agree with you 100% but maybe he got tired of shifting all the time or he lost use of his left leg.

yes it can be done. But the real question is: "are you willing to pay the price?"

it's not as easy as just bolting a new one on. I wouldn't do it. You're better off trading in what you have now and getting something with an auto tranny.

You can use the AOD. You would need to find the bellhousing that was used on the 1992 Gran Marquis/Crown Vic. This is the non computer OD tranny that was used with the 4.6 in 92 only. This should be a relatively simple swap
